'Friends and Vegetarianism' (1944)



The Friends' Vegetarian Society is the oldest surviving Christian fellowship of its kind, having been founded in 1902. The society has published at least eight tracts in the course of its history and their newsletter has recently been revived - contact the F.V.S. c/o Bal Saini for subscription details at 176 Stoney Lane, Sparkhill, Birmingham B12 8AN.

Food reformers and the Salvation Army

The Order maintained close links with the Salvationists during the early decades of the twentieth century through influential Officers who included the Chief-of-Staff and second General, Bramwell Booth.

Late-Victorian propaganda



A century before PETA unveiled their controversial 'Jesus was a Vegetarian' billboard campaign the London Vegetarian Society featured these two illustrations in the Christmas 1898 edition of their journal, The Vegetarian.
